I was up in Edmonton for a workshop and to see some friends, and while I was there I popped into West Edmonton Mall to do some shopping. My friend wasn’t getting off work until nearly 7pm and I was getting hungry, so I looked at the menu and saw only two places for sushi – one fast-food, and one sit-down restaurant. I opted for the latter, and found myself at Oranj Sushi Bar.
It started off kind of rough to be honest… they seated me inside and it really smelled badly of fish. That isn’t a good sign for a sushi place…
Still, my feet were tired and I was getting really hungry so I asked to move out into the area closer to the hallway, and ordered the Sushi Chef’s Bento Box with the Sushi and Sashimi options instead of the teriyaki or shogayaki. The bento box also comes with assorted tempura (not pictured), edamame, miso soup, green salad, rice, and spring rolls.
I didn’t eat any of the rice, and the spring rolls were kind of greasy. The rolls also fell apart when I was trying to eat them… The sashimi was good though, and the Miso soup was good… Still, I wouldn’t really recommend Oranj… with all of the variety of places to eat in West Edmonton Mall, I’m sure there are way better options.
What do you think? Have you been to Oranj?
