After seeing them tagged on Instagram, I was totally keen to check out The Street Eatery, located in downtown Calgary. Their Instagram feed is lots of cool fusion food… but what caught my eye were the super-cool over-the-top milkshakes. I convinced some friends to join me one evening. Although I was going for the milkshakes… I couldn’t help myself from the savory instead.
Vegetarian Naan Rola
Both Lauren and I had the Naan Rola – a wrap served with a side-salad on a hand-stretched butter naan. We both went for the vegetarian option, with roasted potatoes, spinach, dates, and cashews. The menu didn’t indicate onions, but when it arrived with onions, our server took mine back and replaced it quickly with something I could eat. I really need to make a better point of ALWAYS remembering to say “no onions” even when the menu doesn’t indicate that there’s onions included….
KFC Stone Bowl Stir-Fry
Josh went for the Korean Fried Chicken stir-fry with seasonal veggies, peanuts, and oh yeah.. onions…
Fries & Sweet n’ Salty milkshake
On Sunday, @aserenedeath, @_bats_, @boozeandleather & I got out to @streeteateryyyc for yummy #noms. It was a tough choice between their fusion menu of #YYCfood and their selection of over-the-top #milkshakes. . 🥗🍰🍬🍰🥗 #milkshake #eatAlberta150 #eatLocal #yycfoodie #yyceats #YycFoodBlogger #streeteateryyyc #calgaryfoodie #calgaryFoodBlogger #CalgaryEats #CalgaryBlogger #happySushiBelly
Now Skye.. she couldn’t deny the lure of the fancy over-the-top milkshakes… though she confessed that even the small cajun chips (served with ketchup) was too much food to also enjoy the milkshake… served with a piece of cake on top!
The sweet n’ salty milkshake was listed on the menu as “a salted caramel peanut butter shake, served with a chocolate frosted rim with chocolate gems and PB cups, topped with a Twix, salted caramel cream puffs, mini pretzel sticks, whipped cream, and chocolate + salted caramel drizzle”. It wasn’t quite as advertised, but still looked amazing (and apparently tasted amazing too!)
Instead of the “chocolate gems and PB cups” it seemed to be Smarties, and instead of a Twix & pretzels, it was a slice of cake!
